About Ayurveda

Introduction

Ayurveda means the "Science of Life". It originated in India more than 10,000 years ago and is believed to be the oldest healing science in existence, from which all other systems emerged. This ancient Indian system of cure uses a holistic approach using herbs/natural ingredients - without side effects. These Herbs are collected mainly from the Himalayan Range of Mountains in India. As against Allopathic that gives a symptomatic suppression of an ailment Ayurveda eliminates the factors that cause the ailment taking both the internal and external environment of the human being into consideration. The most complete and detailed text on Ayurveda is the "CHARAKA SAMHITA" written in the 6th century B.C

Ayurveda is the most ancient and traditional science. The basic principles of Ayurveda deal with the natural way of living a healthy life. People are understanding how difficult is to survive in today's world without any disease. In that case Ayurveda teaches the perfect way of leading a healthy life. The knowledge of ayurveda is divided into eight parts. Hence it is also known as Ashtanga Ayurveda. These are as follows: Kaya, Bal, Graha, Urdhwa, Shalya, Dhanstra, Jara, Vrishan. According to Ayurveda's basic concept of human body there are seven body types. They are as follows:

  • Mono-types (vata, pitta or kapha predominant),
  • Dual types (vata-pitta, pitta-kapha or, kapha-vata), and
  • Equal types, (vata, pitta and kapha in equal proportions).

In Ayurveda, attention is paid to the nature and directly observable attributes of the disease process itself and to the pattern of doshic disturbance in the individual. Understanding the disturbance, or "vitiation" of the individual's normal doshic is the essence of Ayurvedic diagnosis and forms the basis for the therapeutic approach
